2012 The year to make some money

Merry Xmas and Happy New year

Thank you everyone for all your support last year. It was a great year for us with the birth of our new baby boy and some great success with our wines. We have just returned from a crazy trip to Australia where we got to catch up with friends and family and also promote our wines. We are now selling our wines in Queensland. Kris Stapelton of Smashing Bottles has kindly taken our wines into his fantastic portfolio and hopefully you will be seeing our wines throughout Brisbane in the near future. We also talked to a few people about distribution in NSW and Victoria and we will keep you informed how these negotiations go.

2010 Misterioso is sold out

We made this blend of Grenache and Mourvedre for the first time last year. It proved to be a great success for us with sales in the UK and in Ireland. This culminated with the wine being included in the Irish Times Top 100 wines of 2011! We have sold out at cellar door but the wine is still available with Lea & Sandeman in the UK and The Wine store in Ireland.

A review in Decanter March edition

I am probably not supposed to say but our 2010 Domaine la Sarabande AOP Faugères has received a very good write up in Decanter magazine. This wine has done really well for us and we are glad that it getting some good press. We certainly have been enjoying drinking this wine over the xmas holidays. It is really coming together now and drinking really well. It has more savoury notes than the 2009 and is a bit fruitier.

Marketing drive of 2012

This year we will have a lot more wine to sell so we are branching into some exciting new markets. I am off to the French alps in a couple of weeks time. Good friends of ours have worked there for years and have given us some great contacts in Chalets and wine bars. I am really looking forward to the trip. It will coincide with my annual pilgrimage to Ampuis in the northern Rhone valley. The Marche aux vins in Ampuis is one of the best wine tastings I have ever been to and a great way to catch up with distributors and get away from the wife and kids for a boozy weekend!

This time of the year we are also building up to Vinisud which is a celebration of the wines of Southern France. We will be showing our wine on the morning of Tuesday the 21st of February and will be available for appointments throughout the show. We can be contacted via email if any distributors would like to see our wine.

And of course we have to prune all our vineyards

We have been slow getting started but we are now deep into pruning season. We have 6.5 Ha to prune this year but we will probably do a little work for some other vignerons. It is a good opportunity to make some cash and both Isla and I both really enjoy the work. It is very rewarding looking back at a neatly pruned vineyard. Hopefully the wind will calm down, that has been battering us for the past week, and we can get out and get some solid work done.

Anyway happy new year and I hope that the world calms down a bit this year and we can all be a bit more secure in our lives.

Cheers and happy drinking

Paul, Isla, Rory and Peter
